Monika Blazier is an artist and designer whose life and work are a testament to resilience, transformation, and the indomitable spirit of creativity. Raised in a small, unassuming town, Monika’s early years were marked by hardship. Raised in a fractured home, she was no stranger to loss, instability, and the weight of personal battles. Yet, art became her sanctuary, her way of life—an outlet for her pain, confusion, and eventual healing. As her late father once said, “Monika, you view the world in a really beautiful way. Use that.”
As she navigated adulthood, she found herself on a journey to the mountains of Colorado for a new life— one with belonging, purpose and fueled with a passion to follow the sound of live music. At the age of 16, she found herself captivated by the culture and music of the Grateful Dead, thus pushing her towards a more colorful life with like minded people when leaving home at the age of 20. This embrace of psychedelia would later present itself in her art.
Her path to becoming a designer wasn’t a smooth one. Monika had to fight for every step forward. Financial instability and lack of family support meant she often had to balance multiple jobs while pursuing her design education. But instead of giving up, Monika used these struggles as fuel, graduating from the Art Institute in 2017 summa cum laude as a ‘Best In Show’ Portfolio Winner. She overcame life obstacles by using art as a means of practicing mindfulness and presence. Allowing herself to be fully in the moment helped the chaos of life melt away, while gaining insight into herself.
Over the years, Monika built a reputation for creating designs that transcend traditional boundaries, fusing bold color, surreal shapes, quirky personality and hypnotic patterns. With an aesthetic rooted in the psychedelic art movements of the 1960s and ’70s, Monika aimed to bridge her love of music from that time period with her art. However, her style does not stop there. She also enjoys portraying realism in charcoal portraits and has strong experience in various other artistic mediums— painting, murals, art with natural objects, oil pastel, etc.
Amongst her creative endeavors, Monika has many different skill sets pertaining to childcare, personal assisting, operations, marketing, and human resources. This has given her many different opportunities in her professional life.
When not immersed in her latest project, you can find Monika traveling the U.S. with her boyfriend in their van, seeing live music, foraging mushrooms, hunting and studying holistic practices.
